- The first word of a sentence and of a direct quotation, and the pronoun I: He said, ‘I love reading books.’
- Countries, states, cities and continents: the United States, Texas, Paris, France, New York City, Europe
- People and titles before names: George Washington, Mr. Smith, Dr. Jones, Dr. Miller
- Days, months and holidays: Monday, December, Christmas
- Languages and numbered courses: English, Spanish 101
- Companies, events and places: Google, the Olympics, Yellowstone National Park, the Atlantic Ocean
- Planets: Mars
- Titles of books and newspapers: To Kill a Mockingbird, The New York Times
It also checks words that should not be capitalized, such as school subjects (history) and job titles that don’t come before a name (software engineer).
