Writing · Commas
Rewrite each sentence, adding a comma before the contrasting element. Type your answer and click Check Answer.
About This Rule
- Use a comma to set off a contrasting element, usually introduced by not, never or unlike: She wanted coffee, not tea.
- If the contrasting element comes in the middle of the sentence, put a comma on each side: The exam, not the essay, counts for most of the grade.
