A2 Key (KET) Writing Part 6 – Write an Email

A2 Key (KET) · Writing

In Part 6 of the A2 Key Reading and Writing paper, you write a short email or note of 25 words or more. The task gives you three points, and you must answer all three. On this page you can write your own answer, check it with a self-assessment list, compare it with an annotated model answer, and practise the skills you need with short interactive exercises.

Your Task

Your English friend Sam is coming to visit your city next weekend.

Write an email to Sam. In your email:

  • say where you can meet
  • suggest something to do together
  • tell Sam what to bring

Write 25 words or more.

Model answer (44 words)

Blue = where to meet   Green = something to do   Yellow = what to bring

Why this answer works

AreaWhat the model answer does
ContentIt answers all three points clearly, so Sam knows where to go, what you will do and what to bring.
OrganisationIt has a greeting, one idea per sentence and a closing. It connects ideas with and and because.
LanguageIt uses everyday vocabulary and simple, correct forms for suggestions and instructions: Let’s meet…, We can…, Bring…

A weaker answer (23 words)

  • It is shorter than 25 words.
  • It answers only one of the three points (something to do). It does not say where to meet or what to bring.
  • I am happy you come should be I’m happy you’re coming.

About Writing Part 6

Tips

  1. Before you write, underline the three points in the task.
  2. Write one or two sentences for each point, in the same order as the task.
  3. You do not need a long email. Answering all three points clearly is more important than writing a lot.
  4. Leave a minute at the end to check spelling, capital letters and punctuation.
